Our Fallen Heroes

On Saturday, June 12, 2010, the AWHS community remembered its fallen heroes with a ceremony which included adding a hero to its monument. The Fallen Heroes Memorial Remembrance honored 1st Lt. Robert S. Carley '66, USAF during this year's ceremony.
Lt. Carley served in Vietnam in 1972-73 and then transferred to Bitburg, Germany. During a simulated weapons training flight in October 1973, his F-4 Phantom aircraft crashed. He left behind, his parents, five brothers and sisters, his wife and their daughter.
The ceremony opened with the posting of the colors by the Braintree Veterans Council and the American Legion Post 86 members, followed by the National Anthem which was sung by the AWHS school chorus. Remarks by Dr. Carmen Mariano, Mary Lou Sadowski, and other graduates who retired from the military remembered all the heroes that have sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

On June 13, 2009 family, alumni, friends and veterans gathered for the memorial dedication ceremony for the Fallen Heroes monument in memory of the Archbishop Williams High School graduates who gave their lives while in service to our country. Keynote speakers included Brigadier General James C. McConville '77, U.S. Army and Edward A. Smyth '61, Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps (Retired). The Very Reverend Richard Erikson, the Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia, Archdiocese of Boston and a Chaplain, Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, offered the blessing. Alumna Kelly Marshall '04 performed the National Anthem.
