BRAINTREE, MA, ISSUED DECEMBER 16, 2009...Erica Gagnon of Weymouth, a junior at Archbishop Williams High School, a leading Catholic co-educational college preparatory high school located in Braintree, last month qualified for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) All-State Cross Country Meet, distinguishing herself as the first female in the school's history to achieve the honor.
A member of the Patriot Ledger All Scholastic team, this is Erica's first year at cross country. She competed in every dual meet during the fall season, winning all but one.
Erica set the course record at Pond Meadow Park with a 20.02 time and competed in the State Class 4 meet at Franklin Park, placing 11th. She also placed 2nd in the Catholic Central League Championship. At the Northfield All-State meet, she garnered 42nd place with a 6:50.4 average mile.
"We applaud Erica's achievement," said Joe Francis, Athletic Director at AWHS. "Her commitment to both athletics and to academics shines through; the entire school is proud of her."
