Archbishop Williams High School receives $1,000 grant from
The Rotary Club of Braintree
Grant money allows Math Department to purchase software program
BRAINTREE, MA, ISSUED FEBRUARY 16, 2010... Archbishop Williams High School, a leading Catholic co-educational college preparatory high school located in Braintree, was the recent recipient of a $1,000 grant from The Rotary Club of Braintree, allowing the Math Department to purchase The Geometer's Sketchpad software program.
"The Braintree Rotary Club's generous gift will allow math to come alive for our students in all courses from algebra to calculus and in particular will help students who are having difficulty visualizing geometry," said Carol Skill, AWHS Mathematics Department Chairperson.
The Geometer's Sketchpad is a demonstration and exploration tool that can be used by instructors and students to build and investigate mathematical models, objects, figures, diagrams and graphs, providing a tangible and visual means to explore and understand core mathematical concepts.
"This dynamic software program will assist those of our students who learn better using visual rather than verbal methods," said Dr. Carmen Mariano, President of AWHS. "We thank the Rotary Club of Braintree for helping to make those students fly."
