Study Skills
Grade 9
“QUEST FOR SUCCESS”
The freshman study skills class emphasizes study skills in the following areas: Overall organizational skills, Computer skills, Library/Research skills, and Reading skills. Classes include instruction in all of these areas as well as directed studies and reading blocks. The guidance counselors will teach a study skills lesson each term to the freshman. The focus of these lessons is organization and time management, establishing good study habits and understanding and preparing for exams. Special attention is paid to the use of the student agenda, which is crucial in establishing the above skills. The exam preparation begins the process of becoming strong test takers, which is so necessary for college preparatory students who will be taking the SAT as an important part of the college application process.
